I need a new lid for my Richmond Cedar Work Manufacturing, Sterling Freezer 5 Quart ice cream maker. I understand that Rival bought them out and the motorised 8550-X unit looks like it might have the same lid. The lid turns the cannister and the paddle stays stationary. Do you know where I can purchase a new lid for this ice cream maker? Thanks - Stevo

Yes, the Rival 8550 and RCW 5-qt lids are the same. They're sometimes available here: http://stores.ebay.com/Lauras-Last-Ditch/_i.html?_nkw=rival+ice+cream&submit=Search&_sid=93311479

"keep fresh lid" is it needful?

The stay fresh lid is just for use in the freezer. It keeps the cannister fresh. I store my ice cream or whats left of it in another container. I don't think you would have to get a replacement. Maybe you could store the cannister in a large Ziploc bag or something similar. Hope this helps!

I have an ice cream maker ice 45u but the mixer blade is not turning. The power is there because i can hear it and when i pull the leaver down the cogs turn on the sprinkler system are turning i have checked that the lid is on properly and that the mixing blade is fitted correctly ect. If i need to strip the ice cream maker down Could you please explain how to do it. many thanks Dave.

There is a coupler under the blade is everything is not seated and or if it is worn a bit it may not be driving the blade. What you need to do is put everything in place and then turn the unit on without anything in it. All you want to do is see if the blade turns. Turn it on then open up and see if the blade has moved. If it hasn't then the coupler is not working ie it is worn too badly if everything else is seated properly. If it has moved you may have a weak motor and it locks up under the load of mixing the cream mixture. About the only thing you can really fix is getting it seated properly. Anything else will entail taking it into a repair depot to get it repaired or replaced. Check if you have any warrenty, find out who does repairs, and find out what a new one costs. The store you purchased this at will know who or where the repair depot is. Or you can contact Cuisinart and they can help you find out who or where. Sometimes they offer a flat repair fee for out of warranty units. If you have no warranty you have to be careful as a new one may be quite a bit cheaper. I had a bad seal and could have bought almost two new ones for what they wanted if I sent it in. Just ask first before committing doing anything and you will get the best way to get ice cream again ;-]
