Frozen and wont turn

I had the same problem. Dont try and force it. You will break the dasher. Put in just enough ice and salt to stabalize your canister, then add your ingredients and turn on machine. Then finish adding ice and salt around the sides. This will keep the machine moving so the inredients won't freeze so fast.

I purchased a rival ice cream maker. I used it once and the ice cream came out great. The next time I used it the paddle didn't turn and the ice cream and paddle was frozen to the sides of the can. The ice cream in the middle wasn't frozen. I noticed when you try to turn the canister by hand it won't budge, but it turns ok when plugged in. Can you tell me what's wrong. My freezer is #8550-X. Shirley

The tub turns around the dasher(paddle). You live in a high humid area... to much ice and salt around outside. Plus you need to age the ice cream a few hours after mixing. See your book.

Over freezing ice cream....

Any water is going to solidify the mixture. Make sure you use heavy whipping cream, and not half-and-half or some other substitute. As far as the mixture freezing onto freezer bowl - use the supplied spatula to try to scrape it off, but I generally have to count that portion out as lost. Running warm water over it will quickly wash it off. Happy mixing! -Tha Mp3 Doctor

The paddle in my new 1.5 L ice cream maker is not turning - is this normal?

Hello Maryo803, It is not normal for the paddle not to move in these units. First we have to determine weather the paddle is striped or the gear is stripped. At the bottom of the paddle there is a hole that attaches to the turning gear on the machine. Look and see if it still matches the sprocket in the bottom of the ice cream maker. If it does not still match I would suggest buying a new paddle. You can purchase a new paddle from Cuisinart for $8.00 and here is a link to the page. http://www.cuisinart.com/parts/ice_cream/ice-20.html However, if it is not the paddle please post back to this thread and I will see if it is worth changing out the bottom gear.
