I have the automatic frozen yogurt-ice cream & sorbet maker ICE-20 series made bby CUISINART. The first few times the icecream came out perfect & great. I made ice cream yesterday and it was soupy. I put it in freezer and now it is icy and not smooth like ice cream should be. What is going on? I had the freezer bowl in the freezer for 19 hours before making the ice cream. Please, can you help me. Mary Crone - [email protected]

I would actually let the freezer bowl thaw out on a level surface. Then place perfectly level back in the freezer for 24 hours. Should work again. Enjoy! -Tha Mp3 Doctor

Cuisinart Ice Cream Freezer Bowls Not Freezing Anymore

I would take the freezer bowls out of the freezer, run them both under the sink to thaw both bowls out, dry both bowls thoroughly, and then set them both on the counter so that the liquid settles toward the bottom of the freezer bowls. After 1 hour, place the bowls FLAT back into the freezer - don't forget to wrap them in a plastic grocery bag or some other sort of plastic bag. Try to make ice cream again after 24 hours or more of freezing. Let me know if this works, so I can pass the good news along to others.

I have the krups quart ice cream maker. The first time I made the custard ice cream recipe it came out great. After that I can't get the consistency right. It works it at least 40 min to an hour and the ice cream becomes hard as a rock in the freezer. Does not scoop out velvety like first time.

A friend gave me this ice cream maker and I was so excited but never made it before. All recipes say put in ice-cream maker and follow manufactures directions. I don't know what that is. I gather you put the cylinder in the freezer and then pour the blended recipe in there, turn it on the 20 minutes and then put in freezer?????? I would like to specifically know what to do. Thank-you! Rachel

There are some ready made mixes, but its just as easy to make your own. Lots and lots of recipes online. Most call for custard made with 4 eggs + 300 ml milk+ 6 tablesp castor sugar, 300 ml cream and plus flavour ( chocolate, vanilla, fruit etc.) added at the time, then cooled.Except for real vanilla, i use custard powder to make custard instead with twice as much sugar and it works well. I also tried 1 can apricot nectar + 300ml cream; yummy.Look for a few simple receipes, but if your bowl comes out it needs to be frozen for at least 24 hours and the mixture needs to be cold so it goes it in the fridge overnight too. Then you set it up and start mixing till you get a lot of air in the mix, it looks like a soft serve and has increased in volume, about 35- 40 minutes. you need the extra sweetness as being frozen, the sweetness is lost. Have fun !

I need a new lid for my Richmond Cedar Work Manufacturing, Sterling Freezer 5 Quart ice cream maker. I understand that Rival bought them out and the motorised 8550-X unit looks like it might have the same lid. The lid turns the cannister and the paddle stays stationary. Do you know where I can purchase a new lid for this ice cream maker? Thanks - Stevo

Yes, the Rival 8550 and RCW 5-qt lids are the same. They're sometimes available here:
