Ice cream is thin and won't freeze; watery consistency

I have made ice cream for 2 years with my machine. I use the same ingredients and allow the machine to work the recommended time. Recently, the product has been thin and watery and it seems as if it won't freeze.  I always keep the removable "freezer" in my freezer until I'm ready to turn the ice cream maker on so it's as cold as possible. The machine seems to be working the same as always; same sound and speed.

Over freezing ice cream....


Any water is going to solidify the mixture. Make sure you use heavy whipping cream, and not half-and-half or some other substitute. As far as the mixture freezing onto freezer bowl - use the supplied spatula to try to scrape it off, but I generally have to count that portion out as lost. I have the krups quart ice cream maker. The first time I made the custard ice cream recipe it came out great. After that I can't get the consistency right. It works it at least 40 min to an hour and the ice cream becomes hard as a rock in the freezer. Does not scoop out velvety like first time.

Cuisinart Ice Cream Freezer Bowls Not Freezing Anymore


I would take the freezer bowls out of the freezer, run them both under the sink to thaw both bowls out, dry both bowls thoroughly, and then set them both on the counter so that the liquid settles toward the bottom of the freezer bowls. After 1 hour, place the bowls FLAT back into the freezer - don't forget to wrap them in a plastic grocery bag or some other sort of plastic bag. Try to make ice cream again after 24 hours or more of freezing. Let me know if this works, so I can pass the good news along to others.
